Merchant Navy refers to a non-combatant commercial fleet that deals with transferring cargo and passengers through sea. It is the real backbone for international trading. Merchant Navy training involves deck officer training scheme, which include of five phases, lasting for approximately 170 weeks of study. The course includes studies on basic safety training and delivery, collecting training record book evidence, an MCA oral exam and marine operations.

Each department on board a ship has unique duties like the deck department supervises after the navigation and discharging of cargo while the engine department supervises after maintenance of various machines.
